Clusters of large prisms reminiscent of crystal formations emerge from the perimeter of a large expansive
wall that overlooks the large gallery space of the former shipbuilding foundry. Their sheer essence
allows them 'secrecy' in their ability to dance light across their surfaces and onto the wall.
In response to the natural and artificial changes in the ambient light conditions throughout the day and
the seasons, the prism clusters use their own visual language to take on various characteristics of the
surroundings' interplay with light across space, time, and cultural memory: They echo and draw attention to the building's own projections of refracted light which appear then disappear throughout the building; Their surfaces mimic the motion of light in water with respect to the river that the clusters also overlook; They evoke the memory of the building's former life as a foundry and the sparks that could be seen flying at night. Through all this, they maintain a meditation on the force of on their own formal poetic beauty - itself a contemplation upon building's theme of transparency and reflection. |
