This series of drawings is named after the materiality of the works as well as the reference to early American economic production - the cotton trade and slavery. The images are abstracted from swamp scenes, a stereotypic image of the American South.   The dark layered lines of ink move out of focus in sections of the drawings where tiny points of ink make the lines seem to deteriorate like a cultural memory fading in and out of fantasy and reality.
