The Camille Norment Trio is a musical performance ensemble composed of Camille Norment (glass armonica), Håvard Skaset (electric guitar), and Vegar Vårdal (hardingfele). This unique juxtaposition of voices explores the penetrating qualities of the instruments’ resonance, overtone, and spatial presence through the spectral tensions of consonant and dissonant sound.

The aesthetic motifs of resonance, feedback, and melodic drone complement trajectories in minimalist music, while offering a unique approach that is firmly situated in the contemporary. Tension and release, abrasion and delicacy, ‘beauty’ and ‘noise’ intersect the psychological and somatic meeting points of noise, rock, improvisational, folk, and experimental music in a manipulation of both formal and cultural psychoacoustics.

In honor of the permanent outdoor sound sculpture commission Within the Toll (2011), the Camille Norment Trio will perform a series of concerts at the Henie Onstad Art Center.

Wavering upon both uncanny beauty and abrasive noise, this original composition pulls listeners in close and carries them through loops, swells and 'spectral flares' that are deceptively hypnotic as ambience swirls a dark dance.

The first in the series of the Henie Onstad Art Center performances, Toll utilizes Arvo Pärt’s Fratres as the tonal framework for its musical investigation of the visceral qualities of sound through the seductive voices and cultural codes of the electric guitar, the hardingfele, and the glass armonica. Toll’s incarnation of Pärt’s “sonorous overtone of bells” is formed from a resonant ambience that includes ‘noise’, feedback, and dissonant/consonant tensions, creating a mysterious beauty that itself resonates through psychological and somatic.
